The report of the inaugural meeting of the research group titled "The ICC International Criminal Court) in Crisis: Navigating the Turbulence of International Politics."
On February 3rd, as part of the activities of the "Theory and Practice of Conflict Resolution (TPCR)" Study Group, we held the inaugural meeting of the research group titled "The ICC International Criminal Court) in Crisis: Navigating the Turbulence of International Politics" in a hybrid manner. Our goal is to publish a collection of papers as a ROLES Review in the coming fiscal year. The ICC plays a significant role in conflict resolution; however, it faces numerous challenges, including opposition from non-member states, limitations in its jurisdiction, and constraints in its operational capacity. While the Japanese government supports the ICC, a thorough examination of these challenges is necessary to consider effective support measures. At the February 3rd meeting, researchers and ICC staff gathered in response to a call from Professor Hideaki Shinoda, chair of the "Theory and Practice of Conflict Resolution" Study Group, to discuss the publication of the collection of papers.
