International Symposium: “Why Does the Number of God(s) Matter, and How?: Beyond the Dichotomy between Monotheism and Polytheism”

This International Symposium entitled as  “Why Does the Number of God(s) Matter, and How?: Beyond the Dichotomy between Monotheism and Polytheism” is a symposium that has been promoted by the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, Global Security and Religion, the University of Tokyo since 2020. This is the culmination of the "Humanitas Futura: Traditions of Thought and New Vistas for Understanding Man'' project. This project aims to form a network of overseas and Japanese researchers, and to promote exchange and dialogue between the study of monotheistic religions such as Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, and the study of East Asian religious traditions, with a focus on Japan. Over the past three years, we have held lecture series and seminars where we mainly invited  researchers from overseas. This symposium will introduce some of the discussions conducted during  a conference held by 16 researchers from Japan and abroad at Shimane University from February 13th to 14th, aimed at both those who are interested in religion and those who are not familiar with religion.
